about

Fourth EP of 2023. Some of this material I've released in early form elsewhere but has been completed for this EP.

"I Can't Change" and "You Hurt Me" originally date from 2021 and are sister songs to one another, both attempts at Motown style of songwriting. "I Can't Change" was rerecorded and given a second verse and chorus in 2023, though I felt "You Hurt Me" didn't need anything else and is the original recording.

"We Can't Change The World", "Playing The Victim" and "Expat (Get With The Times)" are all inspired by recent events. Like many people in the UK I'm completely baffled by the current government.

"Wind From My Sails" is a satirical song about how various things haven't gone my way this year. I added a third verse compared to a version I previously released on another website.

"Philosophy" and "Together In Dreams" are instrumentals.

aka Mike Spencer.

I make synth music. As Sphat-90 I produce synthwave/synthpop influenced vocal music, and as Sphatika I make instrumental, mostly ambient music. I also have a project with a friend, Steppin Razorbacks, as well as my old Music 2000 music as Die Schwartzmann. I've been making music for much of my life. ... more
