about

Sweet Dreams In A Hostile World is a collection of instrumental tracks largely drawn from my Holiday EPs from 2017-2020, but also including 2 b-sides and an unreleased track.

Every year from '2017 through to '2020 I released a Holiday EP around Christmas/New Year collecting instrumental tracks that didn't make it to an album or b-side. In addition I released a Summer Holiday one in '2019. In addition to these there are two b-sides which were made after I did my B-Sides compilation and I felt they worked well here. This set is rounded off with an unreleased song I did last year, "As Good As It Gets". I felt that since I didn't do a Holiday release in 2021 or 2022 that it was be a good idea to make a compilation like this - I feel it brings together a lot of my best ambient work in an easily digestible collection.

7, 9, 19 - Holiday '17
5, 11, 13 - Holiday '18
1, 4, 10, 16 - Summer Holiday '19
6, 18 - Holiday '19
2, 3, 14, 15, 20 - Holiday '20
12 - Refraction '21 B-Side, 2021
8 - Chasing A Dream B-Side, 2022
17 - Unreleased Track, 2022

I omitted a number of tracks because I wanted to keep it to 20 tracks and thus flow well:

"Secrecy" from Holiday '17 - Much as I like it, I included it on The Best Of 2010-2020 and thus it doesn't harm its availability being left off here.

"Wharf" and "Winterland" from Holiday '18 - The former was reused on "Aura", and the latter doesn't flow particularly well anywhere.

"Every Time" (aka Every Night) and "Where Do We Go (both original and Frankreich Mix)" from Summer Holiday '19 because they are instrumental versions of Sphat-90 Hyperfocus tracks. "Meets The Eye" (Original) also omitted because I prefer the Frankreich Mix.

"Prism", "Aura" and "Recluse" from Holiday '19 - I felt the first two songs were rushed, and I felt the latter didn't flow in the tracklisting.

I make synth music. As Sphat-90 I produce synthwave/synthpop influenced vocal music, and as Sphatika I make instrumental, mostly ambient music. I also have a project with a friend, Steppin Razorbacks, as well as my old Music 2000 music as Die Schwartzmann. I've been making music for much of my life. ... more
